Fraser Canyon Hospice Society

Fraser Canyon Hospice Society is situated in  Hope, British Columbia. Since 1995 we have offered Palliative care, bereavement focused programs, support and information to Hope citizens, clients and families. Our territory includes communities from Boston Bar, Boothroyd, Harrison Hot Springs, Sunshine Valley, Yale, and to Peters Road. 

 

We gratefully acknowledge we reside on the Traditional Lands of the Chawathil Indian Band, Shxw'OwHamel First Nations, Yale First Nations and Union Bar.

SAR ROBSON
Bereavement Coordinator

Born and lived in New Zealand. Like most kiwis she travelled. However, she was enamored with different cultures and continued travelling for 13 years all over the globe. Finally settling in Canada and eventually in Hope, British Columbia.
 

Sar has worked in the corporate, not for profit and private sectors at the international, national and local levels. She has worked in Engineering, Design, Architecture and the Space industry. She also has worked in the Senior sector as Executive Director representing 2,000 seniors.
 

Currently Sar now works as a registered counsellor specializing in grief, loss and life changes. She has her own counselling practice here in Hope.
 

Sar also works part-time at the Fraser Canyon Hospice Society as the Hospice Bereavement Coordinator. She believes strongly in the importance of Hospice and the services it provides, especially in a rural community. Sar is passionate about high quality person centred palliative support.

KITTY YOUNKER
Board President

Kitty was born and raised in Vancouver and moved part time to Hope in 2007. After retiring from the Burnaby Public Library after more than 20 years she moved to Hope permanently in 2015. Joining the Hospice Board in 2021.  She brings to the board her knowledge about research, details and staying current and connected within the community.
 

Kitty is a wife and mother of two and understands the importance of support and having fun and the family.

Kitty belongs to other not for profits within the Hope area and we are fortunate to have her as President. Kitty believes strongly in the importance of increasing awareness of having Hospice in Hope while being connected with the Fraser Canyon Hospital. Kitty will continue to find ways to keep giving back to such a wonderful organization that touches and supports so many in our community.

NICOLA HARRIS
Board Member

Nicola Harris is a Certified Somatic Coach, CEO, and Leadership Consultant with over two decades of experience in entrepreneurship, people development, and organizational culture.
 

Her career spans corporate leadership roles where she specialized in culture strategy, recruitment, retention, and team development. Nicola has designed and facilitated leadership workshops and executive retreats that prioritize emotional intelligence, team cohesion, and human-centered growth. She brings a unique lens to people leadership—blending somatic intelligence with practical strategy to help individuals and organizations thrive with integrity and care.
 

As a board member, Nicola is honored to support Hospice’s mission of compassionate care and community connection. Her leadership is rooted in empathy, stewardship, and a deep belief in the dignity of every human life.

SCOTT BIRCH
Advisor

Scott grew up in Richmond, B.C. He was called to the bar in 2006, after having obtained a Bachelor of Arts at McGill University in 2001 and his law degree at the University of Manitoba in 2005.
 

Scott has a unique background as both a solicitor and litigator, and has extensive experience in the areas of real estate, wills and estates (including trusts), corporate/commercial and personal injury law. Most of his practice is now solicitor’s work, involving basic transactions/estate planning to much more complicated work. Scott acts for many real estate developers, business owners, and farmers in the Fraser Valley area and throughout the province.
 

Scott is a proud resident of Hope, BC, where he lives on a small farm property with his wife and an assortment of well-loved indoor pets, horses, and chickens. Scott is a fan of the Vancouver Canucks and Seattle Seahawks and, in his spare time, in addition to spending time with his family, he enjoys golfing, shooting hoops, and splitting and stacking firewood on the property.

Traditional Chief Peter Dexter Quaw is a Senior executive, Indigenous governance leader, and management professional with over 20 years of experience spanning economic development, organizational leadership, policy design, and community-based governance systems. Chief Quaw Holds an MBA in International Business and a BA in Sociology, with deep expertise in strategic planning, proposal and grant writing, project management, and Board relations. He has a proven record of building and reforming institutions, scaling revenues, developing nation-owned enterprises, and restoring traditional governance frameworks.

 

Chief Quaw has extensive experience working with First Nations, provincial and federal governments, non-profits, and private-sector partners, including leadership roles as Government Chief, Executive Director, Economic Development Officer, and Project Coordinator. He is a recognized authority in Indigenous protocols, spirituality, and traditional governance, with international consulting and research experience.

BRIAN MCLEAN
Board Member

Brian was born and raised in Kamloops BC in a large cattle ranching family. After receiving a degree in Hotel and Tourism Management, and successfully completing the training and experience requirements he became a Certified Canadian Alpine Guide. Brian worked in various management positions from hotels such as Chateau Lake Louise and Brentwood Bay Lodge, and finished his career in tourism working for 12 years on the Rocky Mountaineer passenger train.
 

He started with Hope Hospice in 2010 by first doing visitations and vigils. Over the years he has been involved with most aspects of the Hospice and has really enjoyed his time and the use of his abilities to help our clients and their families. Brian became involved with the hospice after seeing how much comfort and support it provided for two of his relatives, their families and friends. He believes in the importance of all communities, no matter the size, having a local hospice to care for clients without them having to leave their community. His administration and accounting skills have made him a valuable board member who likes to contribute as much as he can to support our clients and our team. 
 

Brian believes in community, family and contributing what he can to various non-profit organizations. He is also very involved in volunteering at a local day shelter and also helps work towards finding solutions to affordable housing and helping renters to be able to purchase homes. He enjoys all aspects of the outdoors, gardening, animals and most importantly he is very involved with all of his family.
