Hospice Volunteer Visiting
Our volunteers are trained to assist in supporting those who are living with a life-limiting illness and their families. We do this in a variety of settings and ways. Our volunteers provide support in individuals' homes, in the Hospice/Palliative Unit of the Fraser Canyon Hospice Society, or in long-term care settings. Our volunteers can support families by providing respite so that they can take a well deserved break.
Our Vigil Team provides support during the last days of life and we can provide families with volunteers who will sit with the person who is dying when 24 hour support is needed.

Patient Care Rooms
In the Fraser Canyon Hospital we have two designated Hospice/Palliative Care patient rooms which are designated for end of life care. Our rooms are lovingly put together by the Hospice Society and from the many donations that we have received over the years. The larger room has a kitchenette, two fold out beds for family, TV, and a music system. The smaller of the rooms has a fold out sofa and a homelike setting. It is important to Hospice that families be able to stay with their loved one and be made as comfortable as possible.
In addition to our rooms we have a Hospice Kitchen that has a kitchenette, library, TV as well as another fold out bed for our larger families to use. We encourage families to make the rooms their own and invite items from home (blankets, pictures, music, videos, food, or any special personal items) to be brought into the rooms while they are staying with us. Hospice knows the importance of having a comfortable setting to be in when home is no longer an option for the individual. It is our way of making this difficult time a little more bearable. |

The Griefworksbc organization has a new interactive site for children who have had a death in their family. Parents must sign the child up for this program called The Journey, and it is game-like format for children to explore their grief. This is also a great website for all grief resources. Their website link is on the right. |
